The classic comedy of razor-sharp wit, mistaken identities and luggage-based family trees comes to The Blue Room.

Brought to Lincoln this July, The Importance of Being Earnest will be staged by The Asylum Players and immerse its audience in the witty and irreverent world of Oscar Wilde’s most famous play.   

John “Jack” Worthing wants to marry Gwendoline Fairfax. Gwendoline Fairfax wants to marry Ernest Worthing. Ernest Worthing IS Jack Worthing…in London. Algernon Moncrief doesn’t want to marry anyone. That is until Cecily Cardew, Jack’s “excessively pretty,” ward comes to stay. Cecily, however, is determined to marry someone of the name of Ernest. Time for a christening!

The cucumber sandwiches are prepped, the scones are freshly buttered, the handbags of child bearing size and the aunts are thoroughly unimpressed. Nothing can possibly go wrong…can it?
