“Mrs Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me!”

Those immortal words set up one of the most entertaining, cheeky and downright insane comedies of all time, adapted from the Oscar winning film and beloved book, it’s The Graduate

Brought to Lincoln this March, The Graduate will be staged by The Asylum Players and take its audience along for the tumultuous, often hilarious and downright nuts, whirlwind affairs of Benjamin Braddock, Mrs Robinson and their unfortunate families.

Benjamin has just graduated, he’s intelligent, respected and has his prospects all mapped out. Then Mrs Roboinson enters his life and suddenly his future is as “unzipped,” as Mrs Robinson’s dress. What follows is a comedic calamity of seedy hotels, torrid (if gymnastic) affairs, enraged parents, interrupted weddings, concussed grooms and thoroughly befuddled Benjamins. All set to a toe tapping 60s soundtrack.

Stephen Gillard, Artistic Director of The Blue Room and Asylum Players: “The Graduate translates to the stage amazingly well. It comes from such a pedigree, with the original book and the much-loved Oscar winning movie behind it. The theatre version takes the comedic beats and satire of both and ramps them up for a live audience. We’re trying something new in The Blue Room and using a completely mobile set for the first time, no fixed space, this production will shape reform, even dance around the characters as they race through this wonderfully funny story.”
